PennWell to Launch The Lightwave Optical Innovation Summit (LOIS) in Nov. 2013

PennWell Corporation, a diversified global media and information company, today announced The Lightwave Optical Innovation Summit (LOIS), slated for November 12-14, 2013 in Austin, Texas.

The pace of innovation and opportunity in optical communications is accelerating, and Lightwave, long a key enabler of dialogue in print and digital media among carriers, systems developers and component and subsystems suppliers, will provide a new opportunity for the optical community to continue that conversation - in person. The event will bring together thought leaders from the service provider, technology development, and market analysis realms for a concentrated, in-depth exchange of views that will highlight the critical innovations necessary to meet today’s challenges.

The summit will include a conference, exposition, and workshops provided by Lightwave partners. The conference will be directed by Stephen Hardy, Lightwave’s editorial director and associate publisher; the event overall will be managed by Group Publisher Ernesto Burden from PennWell’s Technology Division in Nashua, New Hampshire.

“The Lightwave Optical Innovation Summit will focus on practical discussions of network requirements and near-term technology solutions with a particular emphasis on the Americas,” said Hardy. “The conference presentations, panels and networking events will provide numerous opportunities for speakers and attendees to engage in a frank exchange of views on the aspects of optical communications that are most relevant to their individual situations and requirements.”

According to Burden, the event’s intimate but wide reaching nature, its focus on practical innovation and its workshops and expo will make it a great learning and networking opportunity. “The summit approach to this event makes it at once both incredibly deep, and incredibly practical – an ultra-accessible opportunity for thought leaders to come together and hash out practical solutions quickly and efficiently. Stephen’s knowledge of the market and long experience guiding this very discussion in Lightwave’s other media channels will assure delegates a high value experience.”

Stephen Hardy is editorial director and associate publisher of Lightwave, part of the Technology Group of PennWell Corp. Stephen is responsible for establishing and executing Lightwave's editorial strategy across the brand’s website, email newsletters, events, e-zine, and other information products. He has covered the fiber-optics space for more nearly 15 years, and communications and technology for more than 25 years. During his tenure, Lightwave has received awards from Folio: and the American Society of Business Press Editors (ASBPE) for editorial excellence. Prior to joining Lightwave and PennWell in 1997, Stephen worked for Telecommunications magazine and the Journal of Electronic Defense.

Ernesto Burden is group publisher of Lightwave, Broadband Technology Report, Military & Aerospace Electronics and Avionics Intelligence and the Avionics Europe conference and exposition in Munich.
