NASHUA, N.H. January 6, 2009 - PennWell Corporation, a diversified global media and information company announced today a new Aerospace and Defense Media Group to include the Military & Aerospace Electronics franchise, Avionics Intelligence digital media, and three conferences: Avionics in Amsterdam, and in San Diego, Avionics USA and the Military & Aerospace Electronics Forum. This new worldwide media group already reaches more than 161,000 aerospace and defense electronics professionals.
As a result of tremendous growth in the avionics marketplace ? 30-50% during the past few years, and defense electronics spending at $130 billion per year, PennWell is bringing together a media powerhouse by combining its Military & Aerospace Electronics magazine, now in its 20th year of publication, and its associated website milaero.com, eNewsletters and conference, with the newly formed Avionics Intelligence website avionics-intelligence.com and monthly eNewsletter. In May of 2008 PennWell purchased the successful Avionics Conference and Exposition, held annually in March in Amsterdam, and soon after Avionics USA was launched as the first global expansion of the event, growing PennWell's strategic position in the $8 billion avionics market. This new event will be co-located with the Military and Aerospace Electronics Forum, June 1-2 in San Diego, offering two separate conferences and a shared exhibit floor. This new group will serve top program and project managers, engineering managers and engineers involved in electronic and electro-optic design for military, space, and commercial-aviation applications.
"The Avionics conferences are the only dedicated civil and military avionics events in the world," said John McHale, Avionics USA conference chair and Avionics Intelligence Editor in Chief. " Avionics Intelligence is the media brand that complements the shows and provides year-round compelling content for aerospace prime contractors, subcontractors and integrators, and manufacturers of finished electronic and software products."
"The formation of the Aerospace and Defense Media Group is strategic because it complements and expands the Military & Aerospace Electronics franchise with the growing avionics marketplace. Since air travel is expanding globally and nearly 10,000 new commercial aircraft are expected to enter service over the next 10 years, our investment in this area will enable us to grow the shows and online content of our Avionics Intelligence brand, at a far greater rate," said Christine Shaw, Senior Vice President and Group Publisher.
